Meet Talia
Talia Monet Sharpp (they/she) is a blackqueer nonbinary fiber artist, writer and restorative justice practitioner based in Oakland, California. They create garments inspired by the iconography of the African diaspora and memories from their ancestors. She situates her practice within the Black feminist tradition through a commitment to sustainability, cultivation of communal art spaces, and study of the political stakes of making art at the end of empire.
They are committed to identifying and pursuing opportunities to resource communities across the East Bay with the skillset to normalize healthy conflict in relationships. Talia believes that the foundation of developing resilience in communities is effective communication and relationship repair to foster the kind of collaboration necessary for transformation of our material realities.
Talia has been supporting communities with restorative justice facilitation and mediation since 2018. Her work within this space has evolved from educating incarcerated students through the NJSTEP degree program to developing and leading programs expanding access to conflict resolution resources with SEEDS Community Resolution Center. Their current approach is rooted in facilitating community members through conflict resolution and learning experiences that utilize the healing power of nature to ground and regulate us so we may arrive to this work in deep integrity with ourselves.
She is a native Chicagoan and earned her bachelor of arts in Political Science from Hampton University.
